FAQ
- What are your rates?
- It depends on the project: usually I charge $60/hour for programming and $50/hour for content management, but if your project is on a strict timeline, I may charge more. If you're a charity or activist group, I may charge less. My consulting fee is $50/hour.
- Can you give me an estimate?
- Because estimates can be time-consuming, I charge a nominal fee to run an estimate. The fee depends on the scope of the project: a simple project could be as little as $10, a complex one as much as $200.
- What languages do you use?
- I write mostly in object-oriented PHP, but as the project requires, I may also use Javascript (AJAX and DHTML), web service protocols (SOAP, REST, and various proprietary protocols), shell scripting, and Perl. My usual choice of database is MySQL, but I've done work with Oracle, Access, and SQL Server.
- My project uses a CMS, framework, or library. Which ones do you know?
- I have experience with the Zend Framework, Code Igniter, Mambo, and Joomla. I use the PEAR and Zend libraries, and for Sprokets projects I use the Sprokets libraries and frameworks. My favorite Javascript library is YUI, but I've also used Mootools and Prototype/Scriptaculous.
- Can you help me choose the right tools for my project?
- If your project is mostly programming, I'll include some recommendations in your estimate. If you mostly just need help choosing the right CMS, e-commerce service, or hosting package, I'll treat your project as consulting.
